In 1228 Pope Gregory IX laid the foundation stone for the basilica
in honor of the Saint “of the creatures”, later patron
saint of Italy.
The church located in ASSISI (PG – UMBRIA) contains extraordinary
frescoes by masters such as Giotto and Cimabue.
Restoration project
Considerable restoration was required as a result of the damage caused
by the earthquake of 1997.
