The Palazzo dei Priori, now Town Hall and National Gallery of Umbria,
was begun in the late thirteenth century. The origins of the collection
now on the third floor are connected to the founding of the Academy
of Design in Perugia in 1573. In the course of the nineteenth century
the collection grew and by 1863 it was of such note that a Civic Picture
