Roma – Villa Medici (Academy of France)

zoom on the photo

Built in ROME (LAZIO) in 1544 by Filippo Lippi on the site of the old Horti Luculliani for Cardinal Giovanni Ricci di Montepulciano, it was bought in 1576 by Cardinal Ferdinando dei Medici who added a park with pines, cypresses and oaks. It was decorated with sculpture that recalls Palazzo Spada. In 1803 Napoleon transferred the French Academy to the villa, which was renovated for this purpose.
