Trevi – Church of the Madonna delle Lacrime

zoom on the photo

This magnificent Renaissance church in TREVI (PG – UMBRIA) was built as the result of a miracle. On August 5, 1485 an image painted two years earlier on the wall of a farmhouse shed tears. As a result of this miracle, construction of the church of the Madonna of Tears was begun by Antonio di Giorgio Marchesi da Settignano and Francesco da Pietrasanta on May 26, 1487. It was terminated in 1522.

The majestic airy Latin-cross interior is one of the finest Renaissance buildings in Umbria. It is in this context that 32x16x2 cm honed rectangular tiles, graded and rectified, and 20x20x2 honed square tiles, graded and rectified, were used for restoration.
