Caprarola– Palazzo Farnese
PLACE

Caprarola - VT Lazio

INFO

One of the finest examples of a Renaissance dwelling, it was built in CAPRAROLA (VT – LAZIO) for the Roman Farnese family. The project was initially entrusted to Antonio da Sangallo the Younger. In 1559 Cardinal Alessandro Farnese had the plans modified and Vignola was put in charge of the construction. The building was transformed into an imposing Renaissance palazzo and became the summer residence of the cardinal and his court. Annexed to the villa are the “Orti Farnesiani”, a splendid example of late Renaissance gardens.
